I am currently in the planning stages of creating a PokeDex style app to replace the Contacts and Dialer applications on (all I know how to code for right now is) Android devices. I am starting this thread as a platform to display the progress of my project as well as get feedback, input, and bounce ideas off of team members. Below is a list of what I have in mind as far as design, functionality and included functionality. Feel free to DM me with responses and feedback, or simply reply to the thread and I will get back at my earliest convenience. Now, on with the list, descriptions of features below as needed.
- Pokedex Themed Contacts list Complete with pictures, zones, and battle cries
- Pixelated / Cartoon / Anime Camera
- Battle cry recorder
- Custom notification / ringtone sounds
- Zones
- Custom contact descriptions
- Contact Trader
- Nearby contact notification
- Favorites (Read - Battle Party)
- Team Rocket Go! Themed message chat window
Now a few of these are speculative additions, some may also prove more difficult than others to implement, and others still may come and go as the project progresses. Having no knowledge of iOS programming, I do not forsee this app going in that direction any time soon. My idea originated from the idea that during gameplay on Pokemon Go, our phone will serve as our PokéGear, complete with map, PokéDex, item storage, clock etc. I am sure some, if not all of those functions (and more) will be handled by the device and the game itself. Wearing the Pokémon Go Plus Bluetooth device will surely attract the attention of other trainers and create a meeting and dialogue between them. To be able to whip out your phone during such a meeting, and trade contact information with another trainer will be awesome. But what would make it spectacular you might ask. Well, The RolléDex will, that's what. With the RolléDex, I hope to have a slick, 8-16 bit themed interface in the fashion of a PokéDex. Contacts will be complete with picture, battle cries, description (optional but will prove to be personally entertaining), zones, etc. You whip out your phone in its red, PokéDex-like protective case. Open your contacts and hit the + in the corner to add a new entry. Enter the name and phone number, all the boring stuff. Now the next line of the 'New Entry' screen is a button that says CAPTURE. Pushing this opens a camera application. You have them pose, take the picture, and are greeted shortly thereafter with a pixrlated/cartoony/anime rendition of their face. If you like it, save, and it goes right into the contact picture frame. Now that you have their picture you are presented with another button, RECORD. Pushing this button opens a sound recorder app. You have them say something, make a battle cry, whatever suits your fancy. This is saved and used for their custom notification sound. So whenever this trainer contacts you, you will hear their battle cry. Below the RECORD button is an address box (ZONES) and thats where you put addresses, which should sort folks you know by 'Zone'. Descriptions are user (or firend/contact) created and will show up when contact is selected, giving you the chance to see who the contact is in full detail. Nearby contact notifier will give battle cry of a nearby contact to notify you of their proximity, sort of like facebook, 'friends nearby'. Favorites will appear as a 6 contact list, ever changing like the pokemon list we are used to and the top 8 friends of Myspace, the more you communicate, the higher on the list they are. And I want to institute a Team Rocket Go! theme for the messenger app. The Contacts app will already replace Contact and Dialer in Android so I hope to also have the ability to theme Messages.
Any input, ideas, criticism, etc will be read and taken seriously. Please feel free to help me get this project off the ground and running. Hit me up via thread response, DM, FB, etc, If you you would like to help dev, etc, hit me up. More to come in the near future as werx, producing, djing, rest and other projects (and cant forget wifey time, which is a priority to me) are going on and if I am going solo on into this endeavor it can take some time. I am only one man but will not say no to proper help. I'll keep this thread updated as daily as possible as progress is made. Again, hit me up if you have interest in adding in your expertise, time, and or assistance. Until next time.
